Day 22 of Lent - The Good Shepherd

John 10.1-21 (Click here to read on YouVersion)

In today's reading, Jesus foreshadows His upcoming crucifixion when He tells His disciples, "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep." Jesus is comparing himself to other false religious leaders, false messiahs, and false prophets who don't come to care for the sheep, but instead they come to steal, kill, and destroy.

I love that Jesus carefully tends to His sheep. His heart is always to bless, heal, and prosper us. When other influences in this world look for ways to "take" from people, Jesus (and, hopefully, His followers) doesn't look for ways to gain but for ways to give.

Let's be sure to be careful what voices--what 'shepherds'--we are allowing to influence us and lead us. Only the Good Shepherd can be trusted to lead us into peace, satisfaction, and salvation.

Today's Prayer: Lord Jesus, today I want to listen to your voice and only your voice. I need you to shepherd me, lead me, and guide me. Close my ears to any other influence that isn't yours. Amen.
