Day 12 of Lent - The Transfiguration

Matthew 17.1-9 (Click here to read on YouVersion)

The mystical experience on Mount Tabor of Christ's transfiguration marks a turning point in the gospel story. It's at this point that Jesus comes down from the mountain and sets His course for Jerusalem and crucifixion.

The appearance of Elijah and Moses shows us that Jesus is the fulfillment of everything the Old Testament Law and prophets were pointing toward.

Check out this quote from Pastor Brian Zahnd:

In the darkness of the pagan world the Law and the Prophets enabled the Hebrew people to grope forward in the understanding of who God is. The Law and the Prophets are the moon and the stars that enabled Israel to navigate a treacherous world of idolatry and injustice. But when the day dawns, the moon and the stars recede and give way to the rising sun. Jesus Christ is the sun of righteousness risen with healing in his rays, and Moses and Elijah have come to Tabor to bear witness to the greatness of the Son of God.

Jesus is the light by which we read and understand the entire Bible. We always take the light of Jesus with us when we read the words of the Law and the Prophets. They are the lesser lights which give way to the great light of Jesus Christ, His teachings, His cross, and His resurrection.

Today, let the illuminated Christ shed light on your heart and on every situation you are facing. Ask him to reveal a better path and a better way to get through difficult circumstances. Ask the Holy Spirit to shed light on the Word of God that you might receive the life-giving truths of the scriptures.
